Astro Photography Workshop with Paul Colley

Techniques for capturing stunning Astro photography

Time & Location

11 May 2024, 13:00 – 19:00

The Royal Oak, Bishopstone, Swindon, SN6 8PP, UK

About the event

After our first run of this workshop in October 2023, Paul returns to ProHides to take us through his newest passion and expertise once again - exploring the world of Astrophotography.

Learn how to do everything from Milky Way landscape shots to deep space and solar system photography. Achievable with regular cameras and no specialist equipment except a tripod.  With demos of other options from small back-packable star trackers to high-end amateur astrophotography rigs - all commercially available from many outlets in UK.

A unique chance to see standard astro camera rigs and also some more specialist telescopes.

The day will include essential background knowledge for taking great Milky Way images with a regular camera and tripod.  Followed by using basic star trackers to enormously enhance the quality of your images.  And then an introduction to more advanced techniques using both regular cameras and telescopes, but with the additional hardware and software that enables deep space photography of galaxies and nebulae. Paul will give a practical classroom demonstration of basic, intermediate and advanced equipment using his own astrophotography rigs. Paul will spend the final session walking you through different post-processing techniques for astrophotography. Many consider this knowledge equally important if you are to tease the most out of your hard-won images.

The workshop itself runs from 13:00 - 19:00 but if the weather is suitable, the group will meet up after sunset to conclude with an evening practical session, so please bring your cameras and tripods with you.
