You’ll eat (and sleep) well here. Generous organic food from our own farm or our neighbours. A menu that changes most days and always with the seasons. All accompanied by excellent local ales, wines, gins and juices. At the right time of year there’s a proper fire blazing in the hearth and there’s always newspapers, magazines, books to borrow. Our family, friends, and farm workers have shared meals and beers here for 10 years and we only serve the food and drink that we enjoy ourselves.

Cues Lane Bishopstone, Swindon, Wiltshire, SN6 8PP
Bishopstone is about 8 miles east of Swindon, 10 miles west of Wantage. In the village is a large duckpond. If the pond is on the right, the next lane on the left is Cues Lane. The Royal Oak is 50 yards down there on the right. The car park is beyond it and round the back. Please be aware that unfortunately it is a difficult pub to access for disabled users, but our staff are willing to assist wherever possible and suitable. Call ahead and ask us, if you can.
Food from the farm
Depending on the time of year we serve our own beef and veal, occasionally our own lamb, and always our own pork, and bacon, sausages and eggs. Our milk comes via Berkeley Farm five miles away – they process our milk, and we buy it back as pasteurised milk and cream, plus staggeringly yellow butter! Veg is direct from our friends at Westmill Organics a few miles down the road.
We use food from our organic farm wherever possible, don’t miss our organic pork and veal; but we also like Laverstoke Park for its buffalo milk products; Butts Farm grass fed beef when our own is in short supply; Sophie Stoye and Dai Wilson’s organic lamb; Clive Hill’s mutton; Westmill Organics for the veg; Wing Fish at Newlyn for their careful fish supplies – we trust Rob Wing not to sell us anything endangered, and we chat to him often about his cod policies! Neighbours for their watercress, rhubarb, courgettes, broad beans, runner beans, lettuce, by the wheelbarrow load, sometimes.
Circular walks to The Ridgeway National Trail that runs across our (tenanted) 1,400 acre organic farm start from our front door. Our farm boundaries to the south give access to thousands more acres of open land, criss-crossed with paths and bridleways, and the glories of pre-historic Wiltshire and Oxfordshire lie all around us. At the right time of year there’s a proper fire to come back to and always newspapers, magazines, books to borrow. Dogs and muddy boots welcome.
